What is a NIE Number? NIE Number stands for ‘Nmero de Identificacin de Extranjero’ in Spanish. If one is a non- resident in Spain, he or she is required to have a NIE Number just like to the National Insurance number in England. It allows someone to pay their taxes and your activities in Spain can be tracked just by using this number. But couple of years ago, some British Citizens are allowed to purchase any property in Spain without it. Since the law has been changed all foreigners or foreign citizens are now required before they can sign any of the purchase agreement.
