If you’re hostessing a baby shower and are at a loss for what to serve, here are a few suggestions.  First, don’t feel funny if you’re on a budget and cake and punch are your only option.  This is very traditional and you can do a lot of fun things with these two items.  You can buy some rubber duckies and float them in the punch and maybe a little sail boat with a small duck for the captain can sit atop the cake.  If your budget is larger, maybe you’d like to serve a small buffet luncheon with finger sandwiches cut in the shape of teddy bears, ducks or even Pooh Bear characters, Waldorf salad, some cubed cheeses, and in-season fruit.  Other ideas include a fancy dessert buffet with cream puffs, mini cheese cakes and chocolate dipped strawberries.  If the event is in the evening, perhaps appetizers like Dinobites (little dinosaur shaped chicken bites), use animal themed cookie cutters for cutting out fun shapes from sliced cheese and thicker sliced deli meat with rolls.
