Antique oriental rugs are either knitted with pile or woven without pile. Rugs created by any other methods other than hand weaving or hand knitting are not considered to be authentic antique oriental rugs. These rugs come from a wide range of regions such as China in the east to Turkey in the west to the Caucasus in the north to India in the south. A good way to recognize an authentic antique rug is to see that they should lie flat without any wrinkles or ripples on their edges. An authentic rug generally lasts for 50-80 years.
