Nathan was a junior in high school.  He wasn’t much of a student and he rarely, if ever, said anything in class.  So when he asked Miss Jacobs, his health teacher, the following question, it took her by surprise: “Miss Jacobs, my uncle died last year from an alcohol overdose.  Is an alcohol overdose the same thing as binge drinking?”  Miss Jacobs offered her condolences on the loss of his uncle and then pointed out that alcohol overdose is exactly the same thing as alcohol poisoning but not binge drinking.  After defining binge drinking, Miss Jacobs did mention, however, that binge drinking often results in an alcohol overdose because the person’s body cannot process the amount of alcohol that has been ingested.
