IRS Deductions of Medical Expenses
When you itemize your IRS deductions, you can deduct medical expenses or the amount you paid over the year of yourself, your spouse and your dependents. There are strict rules about what constitute medical expenses and if you do not follow the rules, you can get into trouble with the IRS.
You cannot deduct all medicine related expenses or hospital related expenses despite the fact that most people try to. The IRS will not allow them.
For example, you cannot deduct drugs that were not prescribed by a physician unless it is insulin. This is just one of many rules.
